Teichmann adds American firepower to Townsville Heat

Experienced American sharpshooter Grant Teichmann will link with the Townsville Heat for the 2025 NBL1 North season.

The 28-year-old shooting guard has enjoyed a decorated professional career in Germany and is currently playing for ART

Giants Dusseldorf in the German ProA league.

Teichmann will link with the Heat after wrapping up his playing commitments in Europe and said he is excited to make his

first trip to Australia and test himself against the best the NBL1 North has to offer.

“From what I’ve heard Townsville is the best place to be in Australia during the winter months and everyone says great

things about the level of the competition,” he said.

“I’ve always wanted to play in Australia but normally after a nine-month season in Europe I have other obligations back

home in the US. This year it worked out I was free for the summer and I reached out to my agent about finding an opportunity.

“The NBL1 North is a perfect scenario for me, it’s playing against NBL players and from all I’ve heard it’s a well-run and

competitive league.”

The 191cm has played professionally in Europe since 2019, with his German born father granting him dual citizenship.

Before that enjoyed an impressive four-year college career playing for Freed-Hardeman University and Carson-Newman College.

As he prepares for a new challenge in Australia Teichmann is excited to bring his high-level shooting and overseas experience to help develop the Heat group.

“I’m a shooter first, that’s what really sticks out over my career, but I also really pride myself on winning and just playing basketball the right way,” he said.

“I’ve always had a high assist to turnover ratio and I can be another leader on the floor, almost like a second coach out there to help my teammates.

“This will be my first season in Germany where we haven’t made the playoffs, and my first losing season in my career ever, so I really want to finish out over here strong and then head to Townsville to help the Heat however I can.”

Townsville Heat coach John O’Farrell said Teichmann will bring invaluable leadership and pro-level experience to help guide younger members of his team.

“We wanted somebody with experience playing in a tough league overseas and Grant fits that bill with all his efforts in the Germany,” O’Farrell said.

“We’ve lost some veterans from last year so he will help fill that void and we’re excited about what he’s going to bring to our group.

“Grant will arrive not long before our first game but he’s a proven player at a high level and he will really bring some balance to our team with his shooting and ability to score and set-up his teammates.”

Teichamnn will link with exciting Illawarra Hawks talent Kuany Kauny on the Heat roster, with several player announcements to come in the following weeks.

The A.Gabrielli Constructions Townsville Flames and Aligned Townsville Heat will tip-off their NBL1 North campaigns on Saturday, May 3, when they host fierce rivals the Cairns Dolphins and Marlins at Carmichael Ford Stadium.
