Seebohm to lead townsville flames in the nbl1 2021 season
Recently named WNBL Coach of the Year for the 2020 season and JCU Townsville Fire Head Coach Shannon Seebohm will continue to ply his trade in Townsville during the off-season after agreeing last week to take on the Head Coach duties for the Townsville Flames in the 2021 NBL1 North Season.
Seebohm’s appointment makes him arguably the most experienced coach to ever take on the Flames job with his wealth of Head Coaching experience and success at both the WNBL and International level.
His willingness to take on the Flames role will also help lead our young and developing local players on their pathway to future possibilities with the Fire.
“The Flames have always been a strong program in the Queensland State Leagues in the past and I hope that we continue to be a force in the future”, said Head Coach Shannon Seebohm.
“There is an outstanding group of young Townsville players coming through the junior program and I believe we can be successful in 2021 if we get the right blend of experienced players to complement them and help guide them to the next step on their basketball journey.”
The extension of Seebohm’s contract with the Fire in the WNBL gave both he and Townsville Basketball the opportunity to combine for the benefit of both programs.
“When Shannon first discussed the option of taking the Flames job on we were very excited about the prospect of what it could do for our Townsville born and bred players”, said Townsville Basketball General Manager Mark Wrobel.
“We will now start getting to work on what the roster might look like for our delayed jump into the NBL1 in 2021 after this year’s season was cancelled.”
Seebohm is keen to lock himself in deeper to the fabric of the Townsville Basketball community including taking on some development opportunities for our juniors under the guidance of our Player and Coach Development Officer Peter Crawford on top of his NBL1 role.
Seebohm will take a well-deserved break away from the courts over Christmas before starting the pre-season with the Townsville Flames in February 2021.
